SCAR TISSUE REMODELING
A specialized scar tissue treatment that combines gentle, hands-on ScarWork with microcurrent point stimulation scar release therapy to restore movement, flow, and balance in the body. This approach uses intuitive touch to soften and integrate scar tissue into the fascia, reduce adhesions, and promote healing—resulting in visible improvements and lasting relief from restriction and discomfort.
A SCAR'S IMPACT
Functionality:
Scars and adhesions can cause structures that should normally glide past one another to become stuck together. Scar tissue can bind to surrounding soft tissues—including muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia—which may influence movement patterns and create over-dominance in certain muscle groups. In some cases, scar tissue can also extend deeper and adhere to bony structures.
When this happens, scars can begin to act like a “drawbridge,” gradually pulling on the body’s structure as the tissue becomes more rigid and shortened. For example, I often see this pattern after C-sections, when the scar anchors down toward the pubic bone, shifting the pelvis forward and contributing to lower back pain. Sometimes one side of the scar adheres more strongly toward a hip bone, creating an imbalance in pelvic tilt and referring discomfort into the hip or even the knee.
Over time, these adhesion patterns can influence posture and gait, leading the body to develop compensatory movement patterns that may contribute to ongoing tension or pain.

Even the smallest of scars can have an impact that ripples in effect throughout the entire body, including...
Discomfort:
When structures don't glide properly due to the presence of scar tissue, that friction causes inflammation. Inflammation both releases pain signal to the brain, and also increases swelling (pressure) which can compress nerves or joints, and give the feeling of stiffness in the effected and surrounding tissues.
Our bodies are great at adapting around pain. However, these mechanical adaptations—such as changes in gait, movement, or posture—can place additional strain on other areas of the body. Over time, this can create a broader shift in how the body moves and lead to compensation patterns or discomfort in other regions.
Cellular changes:
Normal tissue is made of organized collagen (stiff & structural) and elastin (elastic & rebounding) fibers that are arranged in flexible, multidirectional patterns, allowing tissues to stretch, glide, and move easily. Scar tissue, however, forms quickly and with predominantly collagen fibers that are laid down in a dense and unorganized pattern. This makes the tissue stronger in the short term, but it can also be less elastic and less adaptable to movement. Scar tissue may feel thicker, tighter, or less mobile than the surrounding tissue. In a way you can think of scar tissue as the bodies own natural super glue, a quick fix that can save you in so many situations.
Scar tissue may feel thicker, tighter, or less mobile than the surrounding tissue. The rigid nature of scar tissue can reduce circulation, hydration, and increase nerve distribution compared to healthy tissue. These differences contribute to feelings of numbness, tingling, sensitivity, or restriction that can impede a healthy blood supply, lymphatic flow, and energy flow.
Global impact:
Due to the interconnected nature of the fascial system, even small scars can have far-reaching effects on the body's overall biotensegrity, potentially causing issues in seemingly unrelated areas.
ABOUT THE TREATMENT
A Scar Tissue treatment is always tailored to the clients presentation. While some sessions focus exclusively on the scar tissue, treatment often expands as interconnected local and distant tissues respond, revealing the body’s integrated response to trauma.
A treatment is 90 minutes, and for new clients we begin with an in depth intake conversation before working the tissue. It is an artistic treatment, never exactly the same, and always adapting techniques, utilizing different tools, pressures, and approaches to release the scar tissue.
This is a full body approach to scar tissue integration. A treatment addresses changes in not only the physical body, but the nervous system, and the emotional aspect of scars and trauma. Much of the light touch ScarWork used is energy work, so emotional releases are not uncommon, and often are an important part of resolving physical pain.

SCAR RELEASE THERAPY using
MICROCURRENT POINT STIMULATION
This technique involves the simultaneous application of a safe, low level electrical current to each side of the physical scar using a Dolphin Neurostim. The microcurrent helps to re-polarize the scar tissue, helping to reduce inflammation and allowing it to lay in a proper matrix so that flow of energy, fluid, lymph, blood, and nerve connectivity can resume. By reducing the scar tissue, it in turn releases the muscles and fascia that are causing pain.

SCARWORK
ScarWork is a light-touch, hands on approach to re-integrate scar tissue to the bodies continuous fascia matrix to restore proper movement, flow, and balance. The work is intuitive, guided by the body's response, and always adapted to the needs of the client. Whether working on new or old scars, the technique encourages rapid healing and lasting improvements in the body’s overall function.
FREQUENCY
All scars are unique and will respond differently to the treatment depending on many factors, however most people feel significant changes after one session. Treatments are indicated on roughly a monthly basis, as it is important to give the tissue and fascia time to reorganize between treatments.
It is highly recommended to reduce intense activity for 1-2 weeks after a treatment so that learned compensation patterns do not unwind the resets done during the session. Movement is wonderful, however leaning towards yoga, hiking, or swimming will improve the outcomes rather than high intensity gym workouts or weight lifting.
For some, scar tissue will feel resolved after just a couple sessions, but most continue to receive treatments, not only for the scar tissue itself, but to reset the compensation patterns that may have emerged as an outcome of the scar.

Scar tissue treatments are not limited to the examples listed here—these are simply some of the scars I’ve worked with. I most often see women with C-section scars, and I truly love working with them because of the profound, whole-body impact a C-section can have. I’m also continually fascinated by the rate of change and transformation possible when working with DIEP flap reconstruction scars.
As someone who navigates my own scar tissue, this work is close to my heart and is truly my favorite area to treat.
